Subject Taiwan FDI Statistics Summary Analysis (February 2019)

According to the statistics of Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, 555 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total amount of US$558,089,000 were approved from January to February 2019. This indicates an increase of 11% in the number of cases, but a decrease of 56.09 % in FDI amount compared with the same period of 2018.
   With regard to inward investment from Mainland China, 18 cases were approved with an amount of US$7,405,000 from January to February 2019. This indicates a decrease of 18.18% in the number of cases, and a decrease in the FDI amount (90.97%) compared with the same period of 2018. Aggregated from July 2009 to February 2019, 1,246 cases were approved with a total investment amount added up to US$2,195,196,000.
   In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (except Mainland China), 104 projects were registered from January to February 2019 with a total amount of US$1,483,201,000 indicating an increase of 26.83% in the number of cases and an increase of 99.37 % in the amount as compared with the same period of 2018.
   As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 86 applications have been approved from January to February 2019, indicating a decrease of 18.1 % compared with the same period of 2018. The approved investment amount is US$1,021,727,000, 64.66 % more than the same period in 2018.
